Artists in residence - Meet the artists
Zara Julius is an interdisciplinary social practice artist, researcher and vinyl selector based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is also the founder of Pan-African creative research and cultural storytelling agency, KONJO.
With a background in anthropology, religious studies and photography, her work is concerned with the relationship between performativity, frequency, concealment and fugitivity in the settler (post) colony. Working with sound, video, performance and object based installation, Zara Julius' practice involves the collection, selection, collage and creation of archives through extensive research projects.
Julius was selected amongst 146 applicants for a long term residency supportet by Statens Kunstfond last year and we are really happy she is finally able to join us here at Sound Art Lab
During the residency, the artists live and work in Struer, with access to SAL's sound studios, workshops and facilities. The artists also have access to SALs network of sound sound professionals who work in and around Sound Art Lab, in Sound Hub Denmark and throughout Struer, Lydens By.
The artists have been selected by SAL's residency committee through an Open Call which received 146 applications.
Sound Art Labs (SAL) residency 2021 is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
